Working with Diverse Communication Styles For Professional Services
Consultants interact with a wide variety of client personality and working styles. Their engagement success is, to a great extent, based on how well they adjust their communication approaches to most persuasively appeal to these other styles.
Based on Drake-Beam’s “I-Speak” survey instrument, participants will have the opportunity to learn about their own style and then analyze the styles of others with whom they frequently interact. This instrument was chosen because it measures styles under normal and stressful conditions.
- How others perceive them
- Why some relationships are more successful than others
- How to create new communication strategies when a current approach is not working
- How to interact more successfully by job function (account managers, technical customers, professional services, etc.)
The day will be a combination of lecture, individual planning and group work. The afternoon will also include the opportunity for consultants to plan and deliver brief presentations. The audience will be assigned a variety of styles, with feedback based on how well the presenter communicated in ways that resonated with the audience’s styles. These presentations can be recorded, based on customer preferences.
Summary
Professional Services team members who understand their own communication styles and are able to read and adjust to the styles of others are bound to enjoy greater engagement success. This program, with the help of a very powerful personal assessment tool, will provide participants with the key mindsets and techniques for succeeding with the wide variety of styles encountered at most customer sites.
